purse design

altered book purses are one of a kind purses created from recycled hardcover books. the dancing goat studio design center is an area within my studio space that allows  the customer to design a one of a kind purse especially for themselves or as a unique  gift for someone else. after making your design selection, dancing goat will  construct your custom  purses for you.  most custom orders are ready within 4 - 6 weeks.  rush orders are available for a small fee.

book titles range from classics such as "little women" and "nancy drew"; to topics such as gardening, cosmotology and art.  the studio is stocked with well over 1000 books  and a wide variety of vintage inspired reproduction fabric to choose from.

special order selections can also easily be designed via e-mail exchange.  contact kim at kwendlandt@tds.net

three styles of altered book purses are available.

the original 'geneva' with a 2 1/2 inch purse bottom (binding), a magnetic snap tap closure and a re-purposed belt handle.  the 'geneva' is a great fashion statement as a light duty purse, but also looks great displayed on a shelf or hung on a wall.

the 'hannah' is the same purse style with a detachable 28 inch matching fabric strap. this style is designed  for larger book sizes.

the 'emily' is a jaunty clutch purse with a slimmer 1 1/4 inch spine and a detachable wrist strap.  this style is  matched best with small to medium sizes books.

the newest addition to our altered book designs is the 'gilbert'. originally design as an option for a gentleman's gift, the 'gilbert' is a gender neutral box design that opens similar to a cigar box. we have a variety of masculine book titles to choose from including the 'hardy boys' and classics such as 'tom sawyer and 'tarzan'.
